Parents Guide to Matchday

1. Encourage them with positivity before, during and after the game.

2. Allow them to play football.

3. Allow your child and team-mates to make mistakes, this is vital to their development.

4. Support the whole team.

5. Respect everyone on the pitch, including the referee.

6. Allow the coach to do their job, they set the team up how they want them to play, please don’t interfere.

7. Be conscious of your behaviour on the sideline, this will rub off on the team.

8. Don’t place too much emphasis on the final result. The season is a marathon, not a sprint.

9. Use the drive home effectively, offer advice and guidance on things that your child could benefit from.

Overall, a parent’s role on match day is about respect and positivity. Remember to control your emotions, no matter how passionate you are. When young players have supportive parents who follow this guide, they are sure to benefit massively and players will enjoy playing football far more than if you were to be negative about their performance.
